24-25. Transporting Food to the Battlefield

24.25

This was the moment when everyone sat in a circle at Mudanjiang Field. The soldiers wore headbands with the outline of the sun (the design of the Japanese national flag), and they wore formal men's white divided skirts. There were ten-kilogram bombs at their sides, and the octopus-shaped holes they dug in order to take cover were right there. When we got there with food to give them, they were so gratefull.

Later, "Ganpeki no Haha (Mother Waiting at the Port for her Son's Return from Siberia)" became very popular in Japan (1950) , and the story reflected this scene at Mudanjiang Field. I was filled with emotion when I found that out.
