People Came to Tour the Detainment Camp
While we were in the camp at Voloshilov, we used to go to see the Soviets to beg for cigarettes. We did it during the short time after coming back from work and before dinner. The Soviets who came to observe the detainment camp were wearing men’s suits and women’s dresses that they stole from Japanese who lived in Manchuria--we could see some Japanese names written on the backs of the collars of such suits. Women’s dresses were simply modified from a Japanese style. Some of their clothing looked so funny that we couldn’t help laughing.
