Cutting Wood

Of all forced labor, cutting wood was the most painful work. To cut huge pine trees and Japanese fir trees just with saws and broadaxes was a seriously rigorous task. It was an awfully difficult battle to keep up with the assigned tasks with our weakened and fatigued bodies. Some were knocked down to the ground as trees fell. Even though they knew they had to escape from the danger, their tired bodies did not move as they wished. There were many victims in this labor.
