The Native Peddlars

When we were taken into their custody in Mudanjiang, the barracks were occupied by the Soviet army and the Japanese were put into tents.

The native peddlars came to sell us food and various other things. We could hardly wait for them, and bought steamed buns and other food, filling our hungry stomachs. There were crafty and sneaky soldiers who came up with a trick to push out the bottom of the peddlars' baskets so that items would fall into their hands. Dealing was done over the iron fence.
