Going Home to Tokyo
This was the Soviet soldiers' statement:. “The Japanese army will be sent back to Japan via Mudanjiang to Vladivostok.” Our unit was totally deceived by this and left Mudanjiang. The natives welcomed the Soviet soldiers by waving red flags, but they spat on Japanese units and threw stones and pieces of bricks.
The way they made us believe we were going back to Tokyo was so clever that almost all the Japanese units trusted it. Although the Soviets' control of information was amazing, I also feel so regretful about the simple trusting nature of the Japanese.
