22-23. The Death of the Company Commander

2223

It was on the morning of August 9th, on the day we experienced a surprise attack by the Soviet Army. Our company commander went to the army headquarters in Mudanjiang to receive his orders. On his way, his car was attacked by the Soviet Air Force, and it exploded. Everything went into pieces, and there was not even a fragment of flesh left behind. Hearing the news, the next-in-command went to headquarters, only to hear from the commissioned officer, "It is strange, but there are no orders from the above. It is difficult to assess the situation. You can decide on your own actions." He could not believe this kind of command and became angry, and subsequently complained, "In some circumstances, individual action can be allowed, but headquarters has to always to be completely informed and to provide sufficient orders to subordinates. Why on earth they could tell us to do whatever we wanted to do?"

In this way, headquarters actually revealed the exact reason for Japan's loss in the war. I am really curious to know who on earth gave the actual command for us to be detained in Siberia.
