Anxiety in a Broad Plain
The plain in Russia was unbelievably huge. No matter how much we walked, there was no end to it. The further we went, the more the Soviet army became careful about keeping us from running away. We had no idea how much further we had to keep going. Walking further and further into the plain meant moving farther and farther away from Japan. “When can we go home?” We had no answer. Anxiety spread into the bottom of our hearts. The plain bore no fruit. The extent of the breadth of the plain really made me feel scared.
