In the Middle of a Broad Field

About 1,000 troops were lined up in the middle of the field waiting to go home. Soviet army officers explained that females, children and Japanese civilians had priority for getting aboard the ship heading back to Japan, and soldiers had to wait here for a while due to a lack of ships. We were not totally discouraged because we were near Vladivostok, but our anxiety persisted.
