Food for a Day
In the morning, each one of us was given a kaoliang (sorghum) with skin, a small rice ball, and soup almost like just water. This was not enough for breakfast at all, so more than half of us finished eating the portion given for lunch in the morning instead. Then, for lunch, they had to look away from the others who were so proudly eating a slice of thin rye bread they still had. For dinner, we got soup, some grain, and a small rice ball just like the one for breakfast.
