We Were Not Allowed to Have a Break

If a Soviet soldier found anybody who was taking a short break from work, he would yell and run after him. Everyone really wanted to take a break, but it was never allowed. Some Japanese soldiers were beaten up. Malicious Soviet soldiers gave warning shots. Under such conditions, how could we ever dream of taking a break? We were all experiencing deep sorrow at the condition of forced labor.
